Virtual Charles Dancing.

May he dance forever.

In 2013, when the concept of “distance learning” was barely an idea across the L&D industry, I created the first virtual training how-to program for trainers at my employer. It was built around the concept of “How do I take my classroom skills that drive interaction, discussion, and engagement and apply them in a remote environment?” It was highly successful, influenced the way the company trains to this day, and is a highlight of my career.

This little dancing guy, Virtual Charles, was the program’s host. He’s loosely based on me (yep, including the ponytail I rocked at the time) and was built in (what was then called) GoAnimate. He became a bit of an internal meme over the years, and this little gif of him dancing was passed around various chat platforms and emails.

Sadly, after 20 years at said company, I am moving on due to a reduction in force. But since luckily this little gif has survived, a happy memory of my past impact can also survive. So that’s what this is, a little bit of nostalgia enshrined upon the internet for all to see.
